U.S.S. Halsey Powell refuels at sea. This was accomplished by pulling alongside
a tanker or larger
ship and casting lines, then running same speed. Precision was crucial as clean
up was terrible.
This is the fantail of the ship, the very back. The Fletcher's tail sat low
and when at top speed, the
rear of the ship would crouch low enough that you could reach out and touch
the wake coming by.
